Peer-to-peer trade in Myanmar has its own scam patterns — not the same ones you'd see on Craigslist or eBay. These are the ones that come up most often on classifieds platforms here.
A buyer sends a fake payment screenshot and claims the money is 'processing.' Real KBZPay and Wave Money transfers show up in your app in seconds. Do not release the item until the money is actually in your account — not just a screenshot showing it was sent.
A buyer or seller asks to move the conversation off zaymyanmar to Viber, Telegram, or WhatsApp within one or two messages. Once off-platform, they escalate to fake payment proofs, urgency tactics, or fake bank transfer screenshots. Keep the conversation on the site.
Someone offers to pay for a car in USD through a hundi agent 'at a better rate.' The dollars never arrive; the agent turns out to be their accomplice. Only accept payment in the currency and the channel you specified in the listing.
For cars, some sellers show a photocopy of the registration book that doesn't match the actual vehicle. Always verify the chassis number stamped on the vehicle against the number in the book, in person, before paying.
Vehicles brought into Myanmar on a temporary import carnet cannot be legally sold. The paperwork looks convincing but you'll be unable to re-register the car in your name. Check that the registration book shows a permanent Myanmar registration, not a carnet reference.
A seller claims other buyers are interested and asks for a small deposit to 'hold' the item. Never send a deposit before meeting in person. The item usually doesn't exist.
Legitimate employers do not charge you to be hired. Any 'job' that requires paying a training fee, application fee, or registration fee upfront is a scam.
