Traditional-clothes wedge · Founding round open

Myanmar's first traditional-clothes marketplace — then every other category.

55M people. 8 ethnic textile traditions. Zero platform. One ambassador per community, on rails already proven with Cars. Property and jobs follow when evidence unlocks each.

The wedge

Why traditional clothes is the right first vertical.

Cars, property, jobs — all have Myanmar incumbents. Clothes doesn't. That's the wedge: real supply, real buyers, no organised marketplace.

01

Fifty-five million people, zero platform

Myanmar's ~55M population buys traditional dress every year — weddings, Thingyan, ceremonial occasions, daily wear. Every one of those transactions happens off-platform: in physical shops, Facebook Groups, personal Messenger chats. There is no CarsDB, no ShweProperty, no JobNet for traditional clothes.

02

Eight national-race textile traditions

The 135-ethnic-group taxonomy resolves to 8 core national races — Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Bamar, Rakhine, Shan — each with distinct weaves, motifs and ceremonial dress. Amarapura acheik silk, Chin puan shawls, Kachin silver-studded jackets, Shan silk from Inle and Kengtung. Each community is its own micro-market with its own supply chain.

03

Facebook Groups is not a marketplace

Posts scroll away in 48 hours. No filters by ethnic group, size, occasion or material. No verified sellers. No storefront a boutique owner can hand out on a printed card. No search. Scams are common. Every seller we've talked to wants something better — they just have nowhere else to go.

04

The rails already exist

Zaymyanmar's cars marketplace is live in production on Web, iOS and Android — the same account model, listing infrastructure, image pipeline (Cloudflare R2), messaging, push notifications and admin console will host the clothes category. This is not a from-scratch build; it's re-pointing proven rails at an empty vertical.

The bet

Cold-start an empty vertical with community distribution — easier than fighting an incumbent with paid ads. That's the thesis.

The rails are live

Cars proves the platform. Clothes launches on it next.

Web, iOS, Android · Burmese + English · filters, storefronts, messaging, push, R2 image pipeline. Cars runs on it today. Clothes reuses the same rails — no rebuild.

Competitive landscape

Every established platform serves one vertical. Zaymyanmar serves them all.

Property, cars, jobs, classifieds — each grew as a single-vertical brand. Cross-category buyers switch platforms and accounts. That fragmentation is the wedge.

Where Zaymyanmar wins

An empty vertical, not a fight

Traditional clothes has zero dedicated online marketplace in Myanmar. We don't have to beat an incumbent — we have to build the first one, before anyone else notices the gap.

Community distribution, not paid ads

One ambassador per ethnic group cold-onboards weavers and boutique owners in their own community. Trust flows through the ambassador's own relationships — a channel no VC-funded outsider can replicate.

Live rails, not vaporware

Cars proves the platform works: listings, storefronts, messaging, push, Burmese + English on Web/iOS/Android. Traditional clothes launches on the same rails — no infrastructure rebuild.

The distribution model

Eight ambassadors. Eight ethnic communities. One at a time.

The GTM plan isn't paid ads. It's one community representative per ethnic group — recruited from inside, onboarding weavers no outsider could reach.

What each ambassador does

Recruit within their own community

The ambassador is not an outside sales rep. They are a member of the community they onboard — a Chin woman recruiting Chin puan weavers, a Rakhine seller reaching Sittwe cooperatives. Trust exists before the first message is sent.

Onboard 25 founding sellers · 12-month free Pro

Each ambassador's target is 25 founding-cohort sellers on the Founding Seller Program — the plan's Yangon-tested cap. Weavers, boutique owners, wedding-dress tailors. They get 12 months of Pro features free, a branded storefront, and a printable QR code.

Ground truth into the product

Ambassadors relay ethnic-taxonomy corrections, translation refinements (name_my validation), missing occasions and material terms, and payment friction back to the product team weekly. The taxonomy grows community-owned, not top-down.

Compensation tied to durable supply

Stipend + per-active-seller bonus (measured on retention and listings-per-month, not signups). Payment via KBZ Pay / Wave Money monthly. Backup ambassador nominated at signing so a single dropout doesn't kill a wave.

8 ambassadors · 8 ethnic communities · one launch cohort

Official Myanmar national-races order. Regions + textiles from our ethnic-taxonomy dataset, corrected weekly by ambassadors on the ground. All 8 ambassadors work parallel Aug–Nov 2026; launch Dec 2026.

The founding round

50% Founding Contributor Profit Pool.

A proposed long-term participation pool for contributors funding the highest-risk stage — before marketplace economics are proven.

Founding round

$200K

Maximum qualifying founding capital

Why founding contributors receive special treatment

01

The high-risk period

Small team · empty vertical · ambassador program unproven · highest uncertainty

02

$200K Founding Round

24 months runway · 5 people starting team · 8-community rollout, 200 founding sellers and recurring seller revenue to prove

03

Lower-risk future stage

Wedge validated · ambassador model repeatable · cars re-activated · future financing uses separate terms

01

Founding round closes

The proposed $200K qualifying pool is limited to founding contributors.

02

Future rounds are separate

Later investors do not automatically join or dilute the original 50% pool.

03

No profit = no distribution

Participation only applies when eligible distributable profit exists.

Use of funds

How the $200K would be deployed.

Team-heavy because shipping the product is the highest-risk work; ambassador program funded as a distinct line because it is the go-to-market plan; contingency because Myanmar operations carry real currency, political and hiring risk.

Category24-month spend
Team & operations$112,000
Ambassador program (8 communities)$48,000
Marketing & seller acquisition$16,000
Contingency & buffer$24,000
Total founding round$200,000

Conservative by design

At $56K/year team burn, the round covers up to 42 months of pure survival if ambassador + marketing spend paused. The 24-month figure covers the active-growth plan. Faster conversion funds accelerated category expansion, not idle cash.

Default assumptions

Grounded in our traditional-clothes plan (pricing + Founding Seller Program). Clothes: 150 Pro Sellers at $26/mo (Pro tier = 100k MMK/mo, per §3.2), 5 of 8 communities live post-Wave-02. Cars: dormant by default; when re-activated, ~60% adoption of ~330 active dealers at $18/mo (middle of Myanmar B2B software range 60K–150K MMK/mo). Motorcycle market: 615 shops nationally (rentechdigital, April 2026), 99.5% single-owner. Ads: $0.30 emerging-market eCPM. Planning assumptions, not pricing.

  1. Phase 01

    Aug–Nov 2026

Setup · 8 ambassadors integrate stores in parallel

Traditional clothes · pre-launch prep across all 8 communities

Recruit and sign all 8 community ambassadors — one per L1 ethnic group (Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Bamar, Rakhine, Shan). Each ambassador begins in-community outreach to weavers, wedding-wear boutiques and heritage sellers, targeting 25 founding-cohort sellers per community by launch day. Complete the validation gate from the traditional-clothes plan in parallel. Native Burmese speaker validates all name_my ethnic-taxonomy fields.

    Marketplace Growth

8 ambassadors under contract with compensation + backup-ambassador agreements · founding-seller pipeline of 200+ across all communities · Facebook Groups seeded with pre-launch content.

    Product & Engineering

Ship clothes category scaffolding: attribute registry, ethnic taxonomy filters (L1/L2), seller storefront basics, /store/{slug} public page, /post/clothes upload flow, printable QR generator, moderation baseline.

    Evidence to watch

8 ambassadors signed · 200+ founding sellers in pipeline · 50+ seller/buyer interviews completed · zero validation-gate items open · category scaffolding shipped.

    Unlocks

Ready to launch traditional clothes for all 8 communities on Dec 2026.

  2. Phase 02

    Dec 2026

Launch · Traditional Clothes · all 8 communities live

Traditional clothes · 8 communities live simultaneously

Public launch of the traditional-clothes vertical — all 8 communities live on the same day. Each ambassador activates the 25 founding-cohort sellers they've been onboarding since August: 12 months of Pro features free, printable QR, branded storefront. Ambassadors continue in-person onboarding through the launch quarter — deliver QR stickers, help seed initial listings, run weekly retention check-ins.

    Marketplace Growth

~200 founding sellers active across all 8 communities · Facebook Groups converted to launch-day traffic · in-person visits to Yangon, Inle/Kengtung, Sittwe, Falam, Loikaw, Myitkyina, Hpa-an, Mawlamyine · weekly cohort-health tracking per community.

    Product & Engineering

Weekly product iteration on filter UX (progressive L1→L2 disclosure), listing quality, taxonomy specify-terms, mobile capture flow, messaging reliability. Bilingual EN/MY fields collected from day one.

    Evidence to watch

≥15 active listings per seller · ≥3 buyer messages per seller per week · ≥70% 30-day seller retention · qualitative 'I sold something' evidence across at least 6 of 8 communities.

    Unlocks

Live 8-community marketplace, before adding the next vertical.

  3. Phase 03

    Q1 2027 · Mar 2027

    Decision gate

    Cars re-activates · Yangon & Mandalay dealers

    Cars · Traditional clothes continues

Cars re-activates on the running platform with the same storefront + Pro-tier subscription model, targeting the ~330 active Yangon and Mandalay dealers. Property research kicks off in parallel — no launch yet. Cars was proven pre-clothes; this phase re-activates the dormant rails with the clothes storefront model layered on.

    Marketplace Growth

Yangon dealer outreach reusing clothes tooling · dealer subscriptions begin at proven B2B price point · begin KBZ Pay / Wave Money merchant API integration for automated subscription billing.

    Product & Engineering

Cars adopts the clothes storefront/subscription model. Category-aware attribute registry proven — adding the next category is now a config + form change, not infrastructure change.

    Evidence to watch

Cars paid-tier live · first cross-vertical sellers (one account, both categories) · initial dealer subscription revenue.

    Unlocks

The platform is officially multi-category. Next quarter unlocks only if Cars shows retained paying supply.

  4. Phase 04

    Q2 2027 · Jun 2027

Property launches · agents, brokers, developers

Traditional clothes · Cars · Property

Property launches with the ambassador playbook adapted for real-estate agents, brokers and developers. Adjacent to iMyanmarHouse / ShweProperty — but unified with existing clothes and cars accounts, so a Yangon dealer who also sells property lists on one login. Traditional-clothes founding sellers reach the 12-month mark and begin converting to paid Pro subscriptions here — first meaningful recurring clothes revenue arrives.

    Marketplace Growth

Property agent recruitment reusing dealer onboarding kit · specialist partner network per city (Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw) · first Pro conversions from Dec-2026 founding-clothes cohort.

    Product & Engineering

Property category attributes (bedrooms, area, freehold/leasehold, floor, township) reused from the shared attribute registry — proves the category-agnostic infrastructure claim.

    Evidence to watch

Property founding cohort live · retained sellers across three verticals · first recurring revenue on both clothes and cars.

    Unlocks

Three-category platform proving multi-vertical economics. Next quarter unlocks only if Property shows retained paying supply.

  5. Phase 05

    Q3 2027 · Sep 2027

    Decision gate

    Motorbikes launches · nationwide dealers

Traditional clothes · Cars · Property · Motorbikes

Motorbikes launches with the storefront + subscription model adapted for nationwide two-wheeler dealers — high-volume, small-ticket segment with turn-fast inventory. Category attributes and storefront reused from Cars.

    Marketplace Growth

Nationwide dealer outreach · Yangon and Mandalay first, then regional cities (Mawlamyine, Taunggyi, Meiktila) · reuse Facebook Myanmar campaign playbook from earlier launches.

    Product & Engineering

Motorbike category attributes (brand, cc, model year, condition) reused from the cars taxonomy. Shared platform capabilities keep hardening.

    Evidence to watch

Motorbike founding cohort live · continued retained sellers across four verticals · recurring revenue growing.

    Unlocks

Four-category platform · category order proven flexible.

  6. Phase 06

    Q4 2027 · Dec 2027

    Decision gate

    Jobs launches · employer subscriptions

Traditional clothes · Cars · Property · Motorbikes · Jobs

Jobs launches as a B2B subscription model — mirrors JobNet's proven Myanmar business model. Employers post, seekers browse. Same one-account platform so a Yangon SME running a cars-dealer storefront can also post job openings.

    Marketplace Growth

Employer outreach — Yangon SMEs first · specialist recruitment across HR, corporate and gig-work · leverage existing cross-vertical accounts for warm-lead conversion.

    Product & Engineering

Jobs category-specific features (job type, salary range, remote/on-site, experience level) reused from shared platform capabilities. Category-agnostic infrastructure proven at scale.

    Evidence to watch

Jobs employer cohort live · seeker traffic building · continued cross-vertical retention.

    Unlocks

Five-category platform · recurring revenue across all live categories.

  7. Phase 07

    Q1 2028 · Mar 2028

    General marketplace · long-tail classifieds

    Traditional clothes · Cars · Property · Motorbikes · Jobs · General

General classifieds launches — absorbs the long tail Facebook Groups own today (electronics, furniture, home goods, misc). Same one-account platform, freemium listing model. Closes the initial 24-month execution window on the multi-category promise.

    Marketplace Growth

Community-driven listing acquisition · migration campaigns targeting Facebook Marketplace users · category-specific micro-campaigns.

    Product & Engineering

General taxonomy · flexible free-form listing UX · community moderation tools building on the moderation baseline shipped at setup.

    Evidence to watch

General category listing volume · continued cross-vertical retention across all 6 categories · marketplace increasingly self-funding.

    Unlocks

Full multi-category marketplace — traditional clothes proved the wedge, five subsequent categories proved the platform.

Frequently asked

Why traditional clothes first instead of cars?

Cars has an entrenched incumbent (CarsDB) and one-time-purchase demand. Traditional clothes has zero dedicated platform and 55M people buying ethnic dress annually for weddings, Thingyan and ceremonial wear. Cars stays in the repo as a dormant secondary vertical, ready to re-activate on the same rails once clothes proves the wedge.

Why ambassadors instead of paid ads?

The cold-start problem in a marketplace is supply, not demand. Weavers in Chin State or Inle silk villages don't sign up from a Yangon startup's Facebook ad — they sign up because someone in their own community walks them through it. One ambassador per ethnic group solves this via existing trust relationships. No VC-funded outsider can replicate the channel at any price.

Do I need to invest to become an ambassador or seller?

No. Ambassador roles and seller accounts are completely separate from investment. Ambassadors are paid contractors; sellers list independently. A boutique, weaver or dealer can list, advertise or work commercially with Zaymyanmar without investing.

Why invest during the founding round?

Founding contributors provide capital during the highest-risk stage — before Zaymyanmar has proven its full marketplace economics. The proposed Founding Contributor Profit Pool is intended to recognise that early risk.

Can I automatically get my contribution back after 24 months?

No. The proposed structure is not a traditional loan and does not guarantee repayment of principal after 24 months.

How does the 50% pool work?

Cap phase: 50% of distributable profit goes to the founding pool (pro-rata) until each contributor has received a proposed 10× cumulative cap. Post-cap: the pool reduces to 10% lifetime. Acquisition/IPO adds a proposed 20× exit bonus per contributor. Full mechanics: see "How profit flows" above and Clauses 3–8 of the draft agreement.

What happens if the company makes no distributable profit?

There is no contributor distribution for that period.

Do future investors automatically join the founding 50% pool?

The current intention is no. The proposed $200K founding round would define the qualifying Founding Contributor Pool. Future financing rounds would normally use separate terms and would not dilute the founding pool's percentage.

How long does founding profit participation continue?

Indefinitely — until an acquisition or IPO. Cap phase runs until each contributor hits the 10× cap; then the reduced 10% lifetime share continues as long as Zaymyanmar generates distributable profit. Transfer rules, restructuring treatment and buyout provisions are defined in the final legally reviewed agreement.

What happens if Zaymyanmar fails?

Contributors may lose their entire contribution. No repayment, profit distribution or investment return is guaranteed.
